What to know about this trip?

  1. Venice left a profound mark on Methoni, Koroni, and, in part, Pylos, three strategic cities in the Peloponnese. Methoni and Koroni, known as "the eyes of Venice," were ruled by Venetians from 1206 to 1500 and again between 1686 and 1715, serving as key commercial and military outposts for controlling maritime routes. Pylos was never directly Venetian, but was subject to their influence for strategic reasons. The imposing fortresses of Methoni and Koroni bear witness to centuries of domination and battles between Venice and the Ottoman Empire. Among the most important Doges for the region were Enrico Dandolo, who facilitated the conquest of Methoni and Koroni after the Fourth Crusade, and Francesco Morosini, who briefly reconquered them in the 17th century. Today, look for a fascinating mix of stories, Venetian architecture, and panoramic views of the Ionian Sea.

  2. Pylos, historically known as Navarino, is a coastal city in the southwest Peloponnese, famous for its natural bay and the Ottoman fortress of Niokastro. It was never ruled by Venice like Methoni and Koroni, but was influenced by it. In 1827, the bay was the site of the Battle of Navarino, a decisive clash between the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet and the allied forces of Great Britain, France, and Russia, who destroyed the Turkish fleet. The victory paved the way for Greek independence in 1830.

  3. Ancient Messini is one of the archaeological sites of Greece, located in the southwestern Peloponnese. Founded in 369 BC by the Theban general Epaminondas after the defeat of Sparta, it was a fortified city with temples, theaters, a stadium, and an imposing wall. The site offers a fascinating testimony to the greatness of ancient Greek civilization.

  4. Costa Navarino is a popular tourist destination in the southwest of the Peloponnese. Located near Pylos, it offers spectacular beaches, world-class golf courses, and exclusive resorts surrounded by nature. The area is rich in history, with archaeological sites such as Ancient Messini and the Bay of Navarino, site of the historic battle of 1827.

  5. Kalamata olive oil is among the best in the world, obtained from the prized Koroneiki olives of Messinia. This extra virgin olive oil has low acidity, a fruity aroma with notes of almond and herbs, and a perfect balance between sweetness and spiciness. Kalamata has a PDO certification, a pillar of Mediterranean cuisine and a source of pride for Greek tradition.
